Virtual scribes help physicians document patient visits from afar

May 30, 2020

A recent Modern Healthcare article examines the increased use of virtual medical scribe solutions in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The article interviews Dr. Michael Murphy, CEO of SoundLines, and parent company HealthChannels. Murphy notes how virtual scribes services have increased threefold during the pandemic.

The article features the experience of a SoundLines and ScribeAmerica partner, Paul Travlos, senior administrative director for cardiothoracic surgery at Northwell Health. Travlos describes how Speke allows the department to enjoy the benefits of a scribe without putting them in harm's way due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlights the financial benefits noting, "'There’s less chance of having any of the notes getting rejected from insurance because (they were) missing vital information.'" Along with the coding improvements, providers have been able to see more patients, helping to offset the cost of the program.
